“Happy Suicide, Jim! is probably the most important album of the year. It is certainly one of the best.”
– Dont Magazine

The love kills theory is an alternative rock band originally based in New York City. They were formed by Cevin Soling, who had also founded The Neanderthal Spongecake. In January 2021, they released their remastered debut album, Happy Suicide, Jim!, a thirteen-track CD with philosophical and anti-consumerist themes. The album was released on Xemu Records. The band's lineup consists of Cevin Soling on vocals and guitar, Bill Brandau on keyboards, Jim Minics on guitar, Darren Pilato on bass, and Jaron Stewart on drums.
Drawing from influences such as the works of Guy Debord, founder of Situationist International, and Aldous Huxley, and fused with the current bio-genetic studies on the evolution of despair, the love kills theory forged their own philosophical commentary on contemporary life.
Happy Suicide, Jim! charted on CMJ’s Top 200, reached No. 1 on KZMU, and had a long run among the top 5 albums in Montreal. The song “Authenticity” was played and featured on the Public Radio Exchange. Album reviews were extremely positive, with Dont Magazine declaring, “Happy Suicide, Jim! is probably the most important album of the year. It is certainly one of the best.”
The love kills theory played sold-out shows at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and at the Roxy in Los Angeles. Their singles have had great success on the Media Base Top 40 Radio chart and on Digital Radio with “Region of the Worms,” “This Thing,” “Something Goes Around,” and “Found,” all reaching the Top 10!
